A Birth to Remember
Well, you are 22 years old now, but it seems like yesterday when you were coming into this world. When I say coming into the world you had to make a grand entrance, much as you still do everyday that I see you. You are my first born son and you made me almost not want another after you. Well, thank God I gave in and had your brother
It all started about midnight January 15, 1990 when I thought I was having contractions. This was my first so I wasn't sure, so I didn't awaken anyone. I was staying at your MomMom and PopPop's house due to the fact your daddy was away at military school. I was afraid to awaken anyone due to the fact it might be nothing unusual. Well, around 5am I figured it was not an unusual thing and I awoke the house and announced that you were on your way.
Everyone started scrambling, the hospital was an hour away, and you were making me more uncomfortable. We had to call your daddy who was half-way across the country and no hope of making it to your arrival. I do believe that I was the only one that was half-way calm. We got the your stuff together, my stuff together, and MomMom's stuff together for the long trip to the hospital.
MomMom and I started the long trip to the hospital. I was having contractions coming on faster and faster. Then the car made a small noise, then a big noise, then a puff of black smoke came from the front and rear of the car. The car then came to a dead, dead stop. I was in between here and nowhere about to give birth to you. It was 1990, no one had a cell phone at that time. We could not call 911 at the time to come rescue us. We could not call roadside to help with the car or the delivery. What were we to do? I was thinking this was just not going to happen to me.
MomMom ran across the highway to a service station and used the phone to get us help. The State Trooper came to the rescue. I was thinking "OH great, You are going to be born in a police car." What a welcome to the world. Well we made it to the first hospital. They looked at me and said I was in labor. Well, no shit, I knew that much. They sent me by ambulance to the second hospital. It was the worse ride of my life, strapped to a stretcher with contractions coming on strong.
Finally, we made it to the hospital that you were born at. I was in heavy labor and I was ready to have you. You had other ideas! Your heartbeat stopped!! It stopped again and again. They said that they had to take you by emergency C-section. I was freaking out, I was afraid I would have to tell your daddy that you had died. I was scared for the both of us. I didn't know what to do. MomMom was right there trying to keep me calm, when I know that she was scared herself.
I was cold, then I was floating, then I was awake. I was told I had a big , healthy baby boy. I was so relieved. I was being rolled down the hall and there you were in the window being held up. My did you look like your daddy, thank God you look like me now. MomMom said you were prefect. I had a perfect baby, I have a perfect son.
I still have a wonderful son, who has been through thick and thin with me. He is grown to a wonderful young man, with a family of his own. I am proud of who he has become and love him more with each passing day.

LOL!!! He made an entrance to be proud of. Glad there was a phone somewhere near.
Reminds me of the time we came upon a couple out in the middle of the desert. She had gone into labor and her husband fell apart. My husband got them calmed down and got the wife in the back of their pick-up. The husband drove it to the hospital with me following. My husband was delivering the baby in the back of the pick-up going down the road at 100mph. It was a good thing he had delivered babies before.
Your first son still knows how to make a "special" entrance today.
